Can a single soldier (e4) that gets his son during the entire summer (45day min) live off post or in housing?

ive been divorced for 2yrs, and now rejoining the army. my decree states that when not deployed im entitled to have my son a minimum of 45days during the summer. i understand that if it is an option it would have to be approved by my CO. if someone has been faced with this issue or has witnessed it please feel free to drop a line
